  12.         There are doubtlessly readers of this article that believe I have 
  13.         no ethics.  Those readers are intitled to there opinion however 
  14.         shallow I may feel that opinion is.
  15.  
  16.         I am the High Priest of Covenant Of The Doves, the comments I make 
  17.         here are necessarily my personal ethics and viewpoint and not that 
  18.         of my High Priestess or members of the Coven.  Even as a leader 
  19.         of a coven, I have no right or power to speak for another  
  20.         person.  They do however necessarily govern my actions as a High 
  21.         Priest.

  23.         The only way I know to state my ethical viewpoint is by a 
  24.         annotated resitation of the Laws of the Craft of the Wise as they 
  25.         pertain to ethics and have been revealed to me by my teachers, 
  26.         the writings of others and that which the Lord and Lady have made 
  27.         clear to me through their visions and actions.
  28.  
  29.         I bear the mundane name Crowley that has a certain significance 
  30.         in the craft community beyond my personal contributions.  Yes, I 
  31.         am prowed of the legacy of that name as members of my family have 
  32.         played important parts in history.  Aleister Crowley was by no 
  33.         means the most important of them nor the least.  
  34.  
  35.         Aleister Crowley, the Current Lord Crowley and myself all bear 
  36.         common accestors to Sir Ambrose Crowley, Lord Mayor of London (at 
  37.         the time of Cromwell) and author of the 'Law Book of the Crowley 
  38.         Iron Works' which is considered to be the bases of British 
  39.         statutory law.  This, I hope  will clear up confusion about my 
  40.         relationship to Aleister Crowley.

  42.         The name Hearth Witch is far more dear to me than Crowley, as it 
  43.         represents a true understanding of what the WICCA is.  When an 
  44.         astronaut looks out of the window of his space capsule and sees 
  45.         the body of our Lady looking back at him.  The astronaut knows, 
  46.         in that moment that technology, and the centuries of mans' labor 
  47.         that put him there, are pale when compared to the wonders of our 
  48.         Lady.

  72.         I feal that it is necessary to explain some of the structure of 
  73.         the Covenant of the Doves.  We say that we have one degree but 
  74.         that is not strictly true. There are 4 things that happen to a 
  75.         person on the pathway.  We cannot call them degrees as they do 
  76.         not happen in the same order to each person.
  77.  
  78.              1.   Dedication to the coven.
  79.  
  80.              2.   Initiation by the God and Goddess
  81.  
  82.              3.   Worldly recognition of their Initiation by the Gods
  83.                   and their ability to act as a Priest or Priestess
  84.  
  85.              4.   Birth or Adoption into the family which is as permanent 
  86.                   and unrevokable as the Initiation of the Lord and Lady.

  88.         THE WITCH 'LAW'
  89.  
  90.                  Do not what you desire -
  91.                     do what is necessary.
  92.                  Take all you are given -
  93.                     give all of yourself.
  94.                  "What I have - - - I hold."
  95.                  When all else is lost, and not until then,
  96.                     prepare to die with dignity. 
  97.  
  98.         There are two kinds of law, Law of Tribe and the Law of Goddess 
  99.         (ie: natural law).  The Law of Tribe requires the services of a 
  100.         Priesthood.  The Law of the Goddess require no Priesthood as they 
  101.         are self-inforcing.  If you see an apparent violation of the law 
  102.         of the Goddess, there are only two possible explanations.   The 
  103.         law is not of the Goddess but of man, or you do not understand 
  104.         that law of the Goddess.  If you see a ball fall up, either 
  105.         someone is deceiving you, or you are in a spacecraft or similar 
  106.         artificial  environment that is manifesting some of the "fine 
  107.         print" in the law of the Goddess.  This partial telling of the 
  108.         laws contain both the law of the tribe and that of the Goddess.  
  109.         It is left to the wisdom of the student to learn which is which. 
  110.  
  111.         THE LEADERSHIP OF THE COVEN
  112.  
  113.         The High Priestess must be an ordained Nymph or a Crone.
  114.         The High Priest must be an ordained Magician.
  115.  
  116.         The High Priestess is the final word on the quality of Worship as 
  117.         the High Priest is the final word on the quality of Magick within 
  118.         the WICCA Circles.
  119.  
  120.         The High Priest's relationship is:  Father, Brother, and Lover.
  121.  
  122.         The Priestess's relationship is: Mother, Sister, and Lover.
  123.  
  124.         THE PRIEST AND PRIESTESS ARE THE LEADERS OF THE COVEN IN THE 
  125.         MUNDANE WORLD, NOT IT'S DICTATORS. MEMBERS MUST BE GIVEN A VOICE 
  126.         IN THE ACTIONS OF THE COVEN.

  138.         The Covenant of the Doves is necessarily a theocracy not a 
  139.         democracy.  Meetings are opened to all who are dedicated and 
  140.         sometimes to concered outsiders.  Whatever the business, it is 
  141.         open to discussion by all.  There are no votes taken because when 
  142.         it is all said and done, there are only two people in the coven 
  143.         that bear the responsibility for the actions of this coven, the 
  144.         High Priestess and the High Priest.  So, the final decision is 
  145.         theirs ALONE.  
  146.  
  147.         When the Circle is cast by The Priest and Priestess, they are 
  148.         necessarily the ABSOLUTE RULERS OF THE COVEN.  No witch shall 
  149.         enter the Circle with out PERFECT LOVE AND PERFECT TRUST in all 
  150.         members of the Circle.  The only question of the order of the 
  151.         Priest or Priestess is: if told to jump, it is permissable to ask 
  152.         how high -- on the way up.  
  153.  
  154.         IF ONE DISAGREES WITH THE DESISION OF THE LEADERS OF ANY COVEN OR 
  155.         CIRCLE.  IT IS THERE RIGHT AND DUTY TO LEAVE THE COVEN.  THERE IS 
  156.         NO OTHER LAWFUL RECOURSE.
  157.  
  158.         LEADERS MUST BE EVERMINDFUL THAT MEMBERS WILL SOON LEAVE AN 
  159.         UNJUST LEADER.

  161.         THE LAW OF THE COVEN
  162.  
  163.         THE CIRCLE IS A PLACE THAT IS NOT A PLACE, BETWEEN THE WORLDS.  
  164.  
  165.         A COVEN IS A FULLY AUTONOMOUS UNIT ANSWERABLE TO NO POWER BEYOND 
  166.         ITS OWN, SAVE THE LORD AND LADY.
  167.  
  168.         IN ANY DISPUTE WITHIN THE FAMILY (COVEN) OR TRIBE, NO ONE MAY 
  169.         INVOKE ANY LAW BUT THOSE OF THE FAMILY AND TRIBE.
  170.  
  171.         It being known that the Circle is a "place that is not a place, 
  172.         between the worlds", and that what is between the Worlds does not 
  173.         concern the World.  Dicussion of actions taking place within a 
  174.         consecrated circle is appropriate for dicussion only within that 
  175.         Circle, or by Elders of the Craft in a Council of Elders Convened 
  176.         by the High Priest and High Priestess of the coven involved as 
  177.         only Elders can or should have any direct knowledge of actions 
  178.         that take place within the Circle of another Coven.  
  179.  
  180.         With the fragmentation of the WICCA since the burning times, the 
  181.         identification of Elders of the Craft is at best ambiguous.  The 
  182.         only working definition that I can feel comfortable with is:  
  183.         Those members of the WICCA community that the High Priest and 
  184.         High Priestess of the Coven recognize as their peers regardless 
  185.         of what rank they hold in other circles.

  204.         THE WORD OF A WITCH NEED NO BOND OR CONTRACT.  IT IS NECESSARILY 
  205.         TRUE AND FREE OF EQUIVOCATION.
  206.  
  207.         We make it clear to all around us that we do not tolerate lieing.  
  208.         If it is on the part of a friend or an acquaintance, we will 
  209.         cease contact with them, if necessary.  If it is a member of the 
  210.         craft, we do not willingly stand in the same circle with them.  
  211.         If they are a student, this is one of the few areas that we will 
  212.         invoke banishment as a punishment (or, if there are extenuating 
  213.         circumstances and the person is of extreme value to the coven and 
  214.         the Craft, we will consider corporal punishment or an equivalent 
  215.         alternative proposed by the student to balance the wrong done to 
  216.         the Coven, in lieu of banishment).  If they are an Initiate, it 
  217.         is necessarily more harmful to the family, and therefore, more 
  218.         serious.

  220.         PERFECT LOVE AND PERFECT TRUST (my fingers wanted to type love is 
  221.         the law)
  222.  
  223.         Perfect love and perfect trust are not words spoken in blind 
  224.         faith. They do not mean a blanket trust.  Perfect love and 
  225.         perfect trust are what was in the hearts of the few, and most 
  226.         dear, that when they heard rumors, first came to us and said 
  227.         "what are these rumors about...".  These people knew that as 
  228.         falible as we are, these rumors were not a reflection of our 
  229.         will.  These people sought to know what happened, not to satisfy 
  230.         any of their own devices or to judge us, but to share our pain 
  231.         and the load.  These people are of different traditions and 
  232.         levels of worldly Craft learning, but these people will always 
  233.         hold a place in my heart second only to my brothers and sisters 
  234.         that are literally of the My Family.
  235.  
  236.         THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF SECRETS IN THE WICCA CIRCLE AND ALL ARE 
  237.         INVIOLATE EXCEPT IN AN ELDER CIRCLE, AND THEN ONLY TO THE EXTENT 
  238.         THAT THEY ARE RELATIVE TO CRAFT BUSINESS AND HELD IN THAT ELDER 
  239.         CIRCLE.
  240.  
  241.         1.   Secrets that are within the Circles that are private 
  242.              to the members of that coven.
  243.          
  244.              (ie: when Charlie has a few drinks he.....
  245.          
  246.         2.   The secret held by the High Priestess and High Priest of 
  247.              the inside and outside Circle affairs of the coven members, 
  248.              due to their office.
  249.  
  250.         3.   The social and magick practices of the Craft that cannot be
  251.              talked of outside of the Wicca without being taken out of 
  252.              context and sensationalized.

  270.         THERE ARE AS MANY WAYS TO LOVE THE GODDESS AS SHE HAS NAMES. 
  271.          
  272.         All ways of loving the Goddess are correct.  None are Wrong as 
  273.         long as they are based in love.
  274.  
  275.         Say not "they are wrong" say "they are a different path from 
  276.         mine".
  277.  
  278.         Until you know in your heart that you have found your path, do 
  279.         not deny any wicca path that you have not walked.  
  280.          
  281.         When you find your path, still walk other paths with your 
  282.         brothers and sisters in joy and love.
  283.  
  284.         "THE WICCA SHALL BE NAKED IN THERE RITE"
  285.  
  286.         All mankind is naked before God and Goddess.
  287.  
  288.         NO STRANGER NOT BORN IN THE FAMILY SHALL LEAD THE FAMILY OR A 
  289.         TOTEM OF THE FAMILY.
  290.  
  291.         NO ONE WHO RALLIES AGAINST HIS FAMILY OR TRIBE SHALL BE KEPT IN 
  292.         BANISHMENT PAST 14 YEARS AFTER THE EVENT, IF THAT UNDO THE HARM 
  293.         CAUSED.
  294.  
  295.         NO ONE WHO EXTENDED THEMSELVES IN THE SUPPORT OF THEIR FAMILY OR 
  296.         TRIBE SHALL BE BANISHED FOR OLD AGE OR THE ACTIONS OF INFIRMITY.
  297.  
  298.         IT IS NECESSARY THAT SKRYING, VISIONS, ASPECTING AND ALL OTHER 
  299.         APPARENT VISIONS OF OUR LORD AND LADY BE QUESTIONED.  IT IS 
  300.         ESSENTIAL TO OUR REBIRTH THAT WE KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT OUR OWN 
  301.         WISHFUL THINKING OR PRIDE, IF THERE BE THE LEAST DOUBT, THE 
  302.         VISION MUST BE DENIED.  
  303.  
  304.         If a true vision is denied by the initiated, the Lady will 
  305.         underline the truth in the vision in an unquestionable form.  If 
  306.         this underlining comes as a punishment, it is still a small price 
  307.         to pay when compared to the consequences of a false vision.

  309.         IF EVER ANY OF THE TRIBE NEED A HOUSE OR LAND AND NONE WILL SELL, 
  310.         THEN CRAFT MAY BE USED TO INCLINE THE OWNERS TO SELL, PROVIDED IT 
  311.         HARMETH HIM NOT, AND THE FULL PRICE IS PAID WITHOUT HAGGLING.

  313.         NEVER BARGAIN OR CHEAPEN ANYTHING YOU BUY BY THE ART.
  314.  
  315.         NO MAN, WOMAN, HIGH PRIESTESS, OR HIGH PRIEST CAN SAY WHAT "HARMS 
  316.         NONE".
  317.  
  318.         The answer to this is for the Gods, not man.  A just action may 
  319.         well harm someone in some way in the mundane world (every action 
  320.         has an equal and opposite reaction).  It is always best to give 
  321.         the action and the power to the Goddess, and abide by her will.  
  322.         If it cannot be given to her after due consideration, then one 
  323.         must act in the most just form that is possible, freely taking on 
  324.         to our selves all adverse reaction of an error in judgment.

  337.         NO ONE MAY DO ANYTHING WHICH WILL ENDANGER ANY OF THE TRIBE OR 
  338.         BRING THEM INTO CONTACT WITH THE LAW OF THE LAND.

  340.         THE ART MAY ONLY BE USED IN ERNEST AND NEVER FOR SHOW OR VAIN 
  341.         GLORY.
  342.  
  343.         NO PERSON MAY BE WARNED OF HIS FATE MORE THAN THREE TIMES.
  344.  
  345.         MAIDEN: (Youngsters still new to the Craft, or older ones who do 
  346.         ritual work and do not mind publicity.) Young people oriented to 
  347.         cope with, and the ability to handle publicity.  Some knowledge 
  348.         of occult and the Craft both in its practical and religious 
  349.         aspects is necessary.  Childless women, virgins;  Warm friendly 
  350.         people with good powers of projection.
  351.  
  352.         NYMPHS - (Do the bulk of ritual work, young adults.) Creative 
  353.         people, artists, dancers, singers, etc.  Very mature, rational 
  354.         and responsible.  Intuitive and uninhibited.  Knowledge of Craft 
  355.         and occultism, etc. necessary.  Dislikes publicity.
  356.  
  357.         CRONES: (executive branch - teachers of neophytes, makes judg- 
  358.         ments, etc.) Must be sober and serious, but with a sense of 
  359.         humor, very mature in most all ways, intuitive of the true nature 
  360.         and inner working of things. Older folks, intellectual, Masters 
  361.         of there Craft, and dislike publicity.

  363.         No woman shall be a Maiden who has not been in her courses.
  364.  
  365.         No woman shall be ordained unless she has passed her 17th year, 
  366.         nor shall she have her ordination recognized until that time.
  367.  
  368.         No woman shall have her ordination recognized unless she is in 
  369.         her courses, has ten fingers, ten toes, two eyes, two ears, a 
  370.         nose.  Her generative organs and breasts must be complete.  The 
  371.         honorable loss of limbs or the effects of torture following 
  372.         ordination shall not invalidate the ordination.

  374.         No woman shall be a Nymph who has not coupled.

  376.         No woman shall be a Crone who has not given birth.

  378.         No man shall be a Magician who has not healed.

  402.         In their youth, let those who cannot swing the axe till the 
  403.         field.  Those who cannot till the field carry water.  Those who 
  404.         cannot carry water, nor till the field, nor chase, nor battle, 
  405.         nor be of service to their family or tribe, let them leave it.
  406.  
  407.         None shall be kept as a child forever.  Better that they be 
  408.         banished if they cannot grow in mind.
  409.  
  410.         INITIATION
  411.  
  412.         NO PERSON MAY BE CALLED TO INITIATION MORE THAN THREE TIMES.
  413.  
  414.         NO PERSON MAY BE INITIATED WHO HAS LESS THAN 20 YEARS OF LIFE 
  415.         LEFT TO THEM AT THE TIME OF INITIATION.
  416.  
  417.         No High Priestess or High Priest of the WICCA can cause an 
  418.         initiation to take place.  Initiation is in the hands of the Lord 
  419.         and Lady.  The teacher can only provide the environment that will 
  420.         aide in the initiation if the God and Goddess so will it.
  421.  
  422.         If one questions the validity of their own initiation, there can 
  423.         be but one answer, the initiation did not take place.  An 
  424.         initiation by the Gods will be remembered.
  425.  
  426.         Let your judgment on matters which you make be fit to the size of 
  427.         the case, not to your feelings.  Let your heart not rule your 
  428.         mind, nor mind your heart, but bear a balance as has been taught 
  429.         you.
  430.  
  431.         Not all are chosen for the tribe, nor are all in the tribe of one 
  432.         family, nor are all in the family to be initiated, nor are all 
  433.         the initiated to be ordained.  Your yoke is to be as strong as 
  434.         you can bear, but no stronger.
